Residents of Kassagyan a suburb of Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region are in a state of mourning as a nursing mother and her child lost their lives in a domestic fire outbreak Monday.

The Nkoranza South Municipal Fire Commander, Joseph Tahiru has confirmed that 31-year-old Imaya Kassim and her seven-month-old baby, Hilala A Bilal, were found dead in their room after the fire service helped in putting out the fire.

An eyewitness who spoke to Joy News' Anass Sabit explained that Imaya popularly called Amariya was cooking something on a gas cylinder in her porch while checking on her son intermittently.

"At one time Imaya came out of the to check on what she was cooking only to find the whole place gutted by fire. She rushed into the room to pick her son.

"Unfortunately, the whole entrance of the room was on fire so she screamed for help. We heard her screaming and decided to quench the fire as well as call the fire service," the eyewitness said.

Although officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) got to the scene, it was too late as Imaya and Bilal had burnt beyond recognition.

Residents say Imaya's husband, who is a fireman has traveled when the sad incident happened.

The Police have since deposited their remains at the Nkoranza St. Theresa Hospital for further investigations.

In a related incident this Tuesday, a six-year-old girl, Akua Fabea, is reported to have been burnt in a similar incident along the Asuoso road in Nkoranza.

Mr Tahiru said it was also as a result of a domestic fire and GNFS suspect the father of the girl had packed his motor in the room with petrol in it.

Fabea who was reported to be playing with matches in the room was the unfortunate victim as she burnt to death after the petrol caught fire.
