Former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has taken a swipe at parliamentary candidates who induce party delegates with money during primaries and described anyone who would indulge in such acts as “enemies of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).”
He also appealed to members of the Party, particularly party delegates, not to allow money and vote buying to take centre stage at the primaries of the Party scheduled for April 30.
He called for a unified front, hard work, dedication and commitment to propel the party to victory in 2012.
Former Vice President Mahama said this when he addressed some NPP executives and party faithful in Cape Coast after visiting the Kotokuraba Central Market.
Party members, market women and traders cheered him and he said vote buying in politics would seriously impinge on the development of the nation.
He said the NPP was determined to continue with carrying out meaningful development projects when it comes back to power in 2012 and advised Ghanaians not to be gullible but make right choices during the 2012 election
Former Vice President Mahama appealed to party members to resolve to bury their conflicts and keep faith with the party in order to clinch power in the next general election by choosing good parliamentary candidates.
He cautioned them against campaigning with huge promises but on facts and on issues and reminded them that as the strongest and largest opposition party in the country it was important for members to eschew internal wrangling, greed, selfish and egoistic tendencies to enable them rally behind the NPP presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s bid for victory in 2012.
The former Vice President earlier paid a courtesy call on the Regional Chief Imam, Sheik Abubakar Hassan, who expressed his delight for the visit and advised the youth in the community to refrain from acts of violence during the 2012 election.
The National Women’s Organizer, Otico Afisa Djaba said women who are in the majority, are the most affected by the socio-economic hardships and urged them to vote the NPP back to power to seek their welfare.
She advised the women to aspire to take up political positions and pleaded with all party members and executives to go down to the level of the ordinary Ghanaian by encouraging intense grass root participation to ensure the party’s victory in 2012.
