At the tenth annual general meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce held on April 14, 2011, Mr. Philippe Ayivor, Public Affairs and Communications Director of the Coca-Cola Company’s Equatorial Franchise and the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation was elected as President.Mr. Ayivor, who will serve a two-year term, replaces Mrs. Mona Boyd who served a successful term as president of the chamber.Mr. Ayivor has been working with the Coca-Cola Company for the past 27 years in the U.S and Africa in positions of increasing responsibility, including Group Information Systems Director for Africa & the Middle East and Franchise Director/General Manager for the Mid-Africa and Equatorial Africa franchises.The Chamber also elected Mr. Rob Scott, Country Manager of Anadarko Petroleum and Mr. Joe Mensah, General Manager of IBM as new board members. Mr. Nick Kyei Baffour, Managing Partner of Smice International was re-elected as Vice-President; Dr. Chris Anderson, External Affairs Director of Newmont Ghana Ltd and Mona Boyd, CEO of Avis Ghana were re-elected as board members.Present at the AGM were the US Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Donald Teitelbaum and other members of the U.S mission in the country. Other board members present at the AGM included Doris Kwawukume, Country Manager of S.C. Johnson, Leslie Nelson, Country Manager of GE, Emmanuel Asamoah, Housing Finance Specialist to Opportunity International. Mr. Emmanuel Addo Managing Director, Admedia and Mr. Johnny Kumah Managing Director, Fujotek Ltd were presented with certificates of honor for successfully serving their terms on the Board.The American Chamber of Commerce (Ghana) is the representative arm of American businesses in the country. It is also an affiliate of the United States Chamber of Commerce. It was formally established in August 1997 and exists to promote commercial, economic, educational and cultural ties between the United States of America and the Republic of Ghana. Its main objective is to contribute to the economic development of the country through the creation of a vibrant private sector.
