Gold Fields Ghana, operators of the Tarkwa and Damang mines in the Western region of Ghana on Thursday, 21st April, 2011, made a presentation to various groups and organizations serving the interests of the deprived and promoting the sustainable development of the environment.Beneficiaries of the GH₵25,000 support include the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GH₵6,000), towards the society’s small scale Basic School Chalk Production Enterprise Project; The Rafiki Satellite Village for Orphaned Children (GH₵5,400).Other beneficiaries are the Lion’s Club of Legon, towards the refitting of the Eye Clinic at the Legon Hospital; the Volta River Authority towards their 50th anniversary celebrations schools sensitization activities; the Ghana Mine Workers Union and the Ghana Wildlife Society towards their Endangered Species Fence Initiative for conservation and education of the youth in deprived schools and communities nationwide.At a short ceremony held at the Gold Fields Ghana corporate office in Accra, the Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainable Development, Mrs. Pamela Djamson-Tettey, congratulated the beneficiaries on their selection, explaining that the selection process was based on the criteria of sustainability.
