The District Chief Executive for Gushiegu in the Northern region, Alhassan Fuseini is extending a hand of friendship to NPP supporters with the hope of securing peace in the area. The gesture according to him is to bring all hands on deck to facilitate the development of the area. This gesture follows years of sporadic violence in the area which has needlessly claimed innocent lives. In 2008, three people died following clashes between the supporters of the NPP and the NDC ahead of the elections.Last year, a similar violence culminated in the destruction of properties leading to the imposition of curfew in the area; a curfew which is still in force.Even though the area seem to be enjoying some peace, the supporters of the NPP only last week accused the DCE of arming supporters of the ruling party to attack them. They cited among other things the police’s interception of a cache of ammunition in Gushiegu late last year, alleging the DCE used his power and influence to disrupt investigation and prosecution of the suspects arrested with the arms. But the DCE has denied the allegations. Alhassan Fuseini told Joy News the allegations are unfounded and unfortunate. He said he may consider legal action if the NPP does not stop peddling lies about him.He however appealed to the supporters of the opposition party to assist in the development of the district.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
