A journalist working for the Chronicle newspaper, Mr Abed Nana Asante was assaulted by irate mine workers of the Anglogold Ashanti during a union meeting on Tuesday.
He sneaked into the union meeting called to discuss stalled negotiations with management over pay and a possible strike. But he was mistaken for a management spy.
He told Joy News: “It was really serious. As I speak with you I am at the hospital. They were beating me from all angles. I feel some pains in my spinal cord.”
The workers have since apologized. The Chairman of the union in Obuasi, Mr Kwaako Mensah said the incident was unfortunate and a formal apology has been rendered to Mr. Asante.
