The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has advised members of the NPP not to take sides in the ongoing power struggle within the ruling National Democratic Congress, but rather focus on what they have to do to secure the confidence of a safe majority of Ghanaians.
He was speaking on Saturday at the Regent Hotel in Sunyani where he met Brong Ahafo regional NPP executives as well as winners and losers of the NPP Parliamentary primaries, as part of the "All hands on deck" nationwide tour.
"The NDC has shown that they cannot manage the affairs of the country and yet they would like to hold on to power. We cannot, as a party, rely on the problems going on in the NDC because whoever they elect as their flag bearer, I say, the value is the same. Leave them to fight their own fight. Just observe and take useful notes," Nana Akufo-Addo noted.
He stressed the need for all members of the NPP to remain united as "the party will need everybody to be able to win the 2012 elections."
Nana Akufo-Addo called on newly elected NPP parliamentary candidates to ensure that the entire membership of the NPP in their respective constituencies were brought on board to ensure that the NPP presents a united front ahead of the 2012 general election.
He continued that "What must concern us as a party is hard and smart work, and in unity, the people of Ghana will by the grace of God accept our good message and vote us back to power in 2012."
Nana Akufo-Addo congratulated all winners and losers alike, together with the leadership of the party in the region and the various constituencies, on the mature and enviable conduct they put up during the primaries and elections.
"The positive outcome of the just ended primaries shows clearly that when myself and the national executive of the party came to you before the opening of nominations, you listened to our message and the result is the applause and commendation that the party continues to receive daily, for this novel achievement. Let us continue like this," he said.
Nana Obiri Boahen, Nana Gabby Nketia, Prof. Gyan Baffour and Kwame Ampofo Twumasi were among the party's bigwigs who were present at the function.
The team later travelled to Techiman to support Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Ekumfi for a funeral.
The ‘All Hands on Deck’ nationwide tour will take the national leadership to all ten regions to meet with the respective regional and constituency executive together with elected parliamentary candidates and defeated aspirants.
The team includes the flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo; the National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey; the General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyje, alias Sir John; the Campaign Manager, Boakye Agyarko; the Head of the NPP's Conflict Resolution Committee, Akosua Frema Opare, and the Director of Elections/Research, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah.
