The Mayor of Accra, Alfred Vanderpuije has said he is unperturbed by calls for him to resign and vowed he would continue to stay committed to the development of Accra. The Market Women Association of Ghana on Tuesday gave the Accra Mayor, Alfred Vanderpuije, 14 days to resign accusing him of being incompetent and also rendering 15,000 hawkers jobless. But the Mayor speaking at a press conference Wednesday in Accra said he is unperturbed by these treats. “I don’t even think about that. I have always said since the day I was voted with the highest order of votes in this assembly, 97.7 percent of votes, be committed to the development of Accra and for the implementation of the Better Ghana Agenda,” he said. He emphasized that, “in that implementation, I know that giving the order of indiscipline in Accra, so many [toes]will be trampled upon. There are so many people who will call for my head, my heart, my soul and everything everyday.” The Accra Mayor unequivocally stated that, “What I will focus on is the agenda for development and in so doing if I err, I am prepared to say I am sorry, because I am human. “We are about the President’s agenda and I don’t care about anybody calling for my resignation,” stating further that he will do his job diligently and “when the time comes and the President says I want someone else to step in, I will graciously step out.” Alfred Vanderpuije however said, the Assembly is ready to assist hawkers who can not pay for stalls.
