The Chief of Weija, Nii Kweku Bibini has been arrested by the police for his role in the chieftaincy clashes which led to the death of a 33-year-old man.
He was arrested at a hideout at Kasoa in the Central Region, DSP Kwame Afari of the Weija Police Station confirmed to Joy News on Friday.
Violent clashes at Weija on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, led to the unfortunate death of Hamidu Salifu who was alleged to have been shot by a suspect said to be linked to the chief.
Supporters of the deceased in a reprisal attack invaded the chief’s palace and razed it to the ground.
The chief and his subjects had long escaped before the attack.
The wife of the deceased told Joy News her husband spoke to her on phone the morning of the incident and was called 15 minutes later by relatives and friends only to be informed of his killing.
She suspected the chief may have conspired with others to kill her husband.
DSP Afari said the police would interrogate the arrested chief and may possibly charge him for abetement of crime.
He said the police were still hunting for the suspect whose trigger led to the death of Hamidu Salifu.
