The Mayor of Kumasi, Samuel Sarpong, has alleged a robbery attempt at his official residence at the week-end.Details of the attack are still sketchy, but his aides say it could have been motivated by allegations that a whopping GHS90 million has been budgeted for President Mills’ second term bid to lead the NDC into elections in 2012.Mr. Sarpong is reported to have hinted at the attack on a Kumasi radio station while reacting to allegations by a member of the Friends Of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR) that he (the Mayor) had organized thugs to assault supporters of Mrs. Rawlings. He claimed that a supporter of the former First Lady had suggested on another station on Friday night that he, the Mayor, was keeping GHS30 million meant to influence party delegates in the Ashanti Region. The same night, unidentified men stormed his house demanding that he surrendered the money.Police sources say they are unaware of the reported attack, but the Mayor’s Spokesperson, Clement Kegeri, confirmed the incident to Luv News.He however insisted on getting further briefing from his boss before giving further detail.Story by Elton John Brobbey/Luv News/Kumasi
