A Kumasi-based Prophet, Prophet Nicholas Osei also known as Kumchacha, was Tuesday arrested by the police for allegedly attempting to rape a married woman at a hotel in Kumasi.
Prophet Kumchacha, who is the leader of Heaven Gate Ministries, was said to have told the 21-year-old woman that the Holy Spirit had directed him to exorcise an evil spirit that was tormenting her in the genitals and thwarting her efforts at making any progress in life.
The Minister of the Gospel reportedly attempted to use his male organ to exorcise the evil spirit but the woman resisted the action and raised an alarm, which attracted many people to the Sanbra Hotel, where he was engaged in a counselling session.
Luv FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah reports that the Prophet was questioned by the police and released on bail.
The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector. Yusif Mohammed Tanko, told the Daily Graphic that the incident happened at the Sanbra Hotel at Adum in Kumasi at about 6.30 p.m. on Monday; explaining that the woman was a member of the suspect's church in Kumasi.
On Monday, May 23, 2011, the prophet reportedly invited the woman via her mobile phone for counselling at the Sanbra Hotel.
The Police PRO quoted the woman as saying that she had gone there with three others who waited for her outside the hotel as she went in for the counselling.
In the course of the counselling, the pastor allegedly told the woman that the Holy Spirit had revealed to him an evil spirit that was hiding in her private parts was working against her progress in life.
Consequently, the woman said the pastor decided to exorcise the spirit by the application of his manhood.
She resisted that move, and when he attempted to penetrate her against her will, she raised an alarm which attracted the attention of hotel staff and the three persons who had accompanied her to the hotel.
A crowd then massed up in front of the hotel, with some calling for Prophet Kumchacha's immediate arrest.
However, the prophet was said to have managed to use the back door of the hotel to escape the wrath of the mob.
Some eyewitnesses said the woman came out of the hotel room with torn clothing.
A report was made to the police but attempts to arrest the prophet proved futile until about 11.30 a.m. yesterday when he reported himself to the police.
Meanwhile, Prophet Kumchacha is said to have denied the allegation against him, claiming that he had been set up.
According to him, he had been living in the hotel for a considerable period of time now and never lured the woman there in an attempt to have sex with her, as was being alleged.
