The Vice-President, John Mahama, has stated that the NDC will come out of its current internal squabble and differences more united than ever to retain power in 2012.
He has therefore called on the party faithful not to be discouraged by the divisiveness in the NDC, but to continue to lend their support to it and the government.
The NDC has, in recent times been rocked by internal squabble; especially following agitations by party foot soldiers.
The party’s woes seemed to have deepened with the announcement by former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings and Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, a former Minister of Communications, to contest President John E.A. Mills for the NDC flagbearership slot.
Inaugurating a GH¢75,000 meat shop at the Techiman market, Vice President Mahama said many were those who thought the government was non-performing until the regional tours embarked by the President revealed the massive infrastructural developments undertaken all over the country. “This (the infrastructural developments) is only a small fraction of many things to come,” he said to a large crowd that had converged at the market, adding, the “Better Ghana” agenda, so espoused by the Mills administration was on course.
He, therefore, urged the people to support the government to stay in power to fulfill their development aspirations.
Vice-President Mahama commended the Techiman Municipal Assembly for their initiative in constructing a modern meat shop, and stressed the need for the observance of good hygienic practices.
On the assembly’s call for support for the building of a slaughter house, he said the government would support their cause because it was impressed with the meat shop initiative the assembly undertook.
In response to another request for a fire tender since the municipality kept growing, Vice-President Mahama assured the assembly that a fire tender would be allocated to it to enable it to respond swiftly to fire outbreaks.
In a welcome address, Alex Kyeremeh, the Municipal Chief Executive, said the assembly was contributing its quota to the development of the municipality.
He mentioned the construction of aGH¢130,000 nurses training school, various classroom blocks under the government’s programme of eliminating schools under trees, provision of 5,000 dual desks and the construction of 77 boreholes in the communities.
