Ms Dedo Dufie Kusi Agyarko, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Lower Manya in the Eastern Region, has assured that she would take the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the first time.
The seat is currently occupied by Mr MichealTeye Nyaunu who has been a longstanding MP for the area.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Odumase Krobo on Wednesday, Ms Dedo said she would leave no stone unturned to ensure that she represents the people of Lower Manya in the next parliament.
“I want to assure my party supporters and sympathizers that come 2012 I will wrest the parliamentary seat from the NDC and end their 20 year kingship in the area,” she said.
Ms Dedo also assured that she was prepared to set a new political record by being the first person to win a seat for her party in any of the seven Dangme speaking constituencies. She contested the 2004 election for the NPP for the first time and lost to the MP.
In the said election, Ms Dedo polled over 16,000, votes, as compared to the 18,000 votes her opponent had.
Ms Dedo said her failure to win the seat in 2004 was as a result of crude propaganda from the NDC that she was not a true Krobo, an allegation that most people bought into.
But she explained that the people’s perception had changed now and that she believed things would work out this time round.
She said her decision to run again was as a result of appeals from the people of Lower Manya that the incumbent MP, Mr Nyaunu, after nearly 16 years in office, had failed to live up to the expectation.
Ms Dedo said she was committed to improving the developmental needs of the area and appealed to the people to support her achieve that aim.
She urged the people of lower Manya Krobo “not to allow the NDC to take advantage of them and deceive them anymore,” reminding them of the many developmental projects the NPP administration undertook for the locality including the Odumase town roads.
