The life of a driver’s mate who was fast asleep under an articulated truck ended abruptly when the driver of the truck accidentally ran over his head, killing him instantly. The deceased Ibrabim Sisala; 26, is said to have arrived at the Takoradi Port last weekend with the driver of the truck; Mohammed Sisala, 50, who is said to be a relative of Ibrahim’s.According to the Police, the Mercedes Benz truck, with registration number AS 1201 A, was loaded with veneer plywood from Kumasi and was waiting for its turn to move to the port for its cargo to be unloaded for onward shipment. They said while the duo waited in a queue to enter the port, the driver went for a walk around the port, while the mate, who had travelled with the driver throughout the night to Takoradi, went under the truck to sleep. The driver, according to the Police, went back to the truck when it was his turn to move to the port.He called Ibrahim Sisala several times in his bid to locate him but to no avail. The Police said the driver, who is now a suspect, failed to check if the mate was sleeping under the vehicle before he started the engine. They said not even the thundering sound of the engine could wake Ibrahim Sisala up to move to safety. It was only when the driver moved the truck that he was halted by onlookers who shouted that he had killed his mate. The body of lbrabim Sisala has since been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital pending autopsy, while the driver is assisting the Police in their investigations.Source: Daily Graphic
