The Volta River Authority [VRA] has assured the general public that a fire that gutted its headquarters Wednesday afternoon will not affect power generation in the country.
The fire that gutted the server room of the VRA on the 11th floor where the authority houses it networking outfit occurred shortly before 2pm attracted some government officials including the Mayor of Accra, Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuje.
Public Relations Manager of the VRA, Mrs. Gertrude Koomson told Asempa FM management was yet to ascertain the cause of the fire outbreak after the Ghana National Fire Service [GNFS] put out the blaze.
She indicated that a sister power sector player that shares offices with the VRA, the Electricity Company of Ghana [ECG] tried fighting the fire with fire extinguishers but failed.
Mrs. Koomsom said the authority had enough back-up systems to avert any document and information loss.
Early on, News Editor of Asempa FM Jerry Tsatro Mordy reported that even when officers of the GNFS responded quickly to distress calls to attend to the fire at the premises of the 12-floor high rise building, they had great difficulty fighting the fire which was on the 11th floor because they had no ladder to access that floor.
