Awarding winning films depicting real life environmental tragedies in Ghana would be premiered on Thursday, June 9, at the British Council
Hall in Accra.
The compelling storylines include the following; About 9,000 people jostling in an Accra community with only a public toilet built in the 1950’s, general shortage of toilet and water facilities, open air defecation and over spilling containers with refuse.
Winners of the Seventh Environmental Film Festival competition would be announced at the premiere.
The Festival scheduled for June 9-17, would run at various venues in Accra, with exciting new films from Ghana and the world with discussions on the state of Ghana’s environment.
The other avenues are Alisa Hotel, Mantse Agbonaa at James Town, Goethe Institute, Golden Tulip Hotel and Alliance Hotel.
Dr Kwesi Owusu, Co-Director of the Festival, who announced the programme at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, said this year’s festival would have a fashion show featuring clothes by Ghanaian designers.
The Festival is being organised by Creative Storm, an Entertainment and Media Company, in collaboration with the United Nations Office in Ghana, French and Danish Embassies as well as other collaborators to raise awareness on environmental issues through films.
Dr Owusu said the Festival aims to entertain and educate, targeting the public, youth, policy makers and film enthusiasts.
“The Festival hopes to encourage young film makers to produce high quality films with a social message whiles encouraging the audience to consider issues that affect them, “Dr Owusu added.
Ms Sherry Ayittey, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology would launch the Festival on Thursday, June 9.
