The Network of Communications Reporters (NCR) congratulates Mr. Kweku Sakyi-Addo on his appointment as the premier Chief Executive Officer of the newly formed Ghana Telecoms Chamber.
A statement signed by NCR Dean, Charles Okine said “the network is particularly delighted at the appointment in view of the rich experience Mr Sakyi-Addo holds in various fields of endeavour and describes the appointment as timely and appropriate.”
It said at a time when the telecommunications sector had seen tremendous growth in spite of the challenges, the network believed Mr Sakyi-Addo would be able to use his vast experience to serve as an interface between the various telecom companies on the one hand, and government, the sector regulator and other key partners in the business on the other.
“The network also finds it heart-warming, the pledge by the Mr. Sakyi-Addo to ensure that his outfit contributes ideas and technical expertise to help craft policies for the rapidly growing telecoms sector,” it said.
The statement noted that many costumers, telecom industry regulator and the sector ministry have expressed deep concerns about the quality of service they received from the various telecom operators, and the NCR expected the new CEO of the Chamber to help address the concerns impartially.
It said NCR had been worried about the recent developments regarding the telecom operators and the National Lottery Authority (NLA) regarding the promotional activities of the telcos which the NLA deems as a lottery.
“It is the belief of NCR that the Chamber will use its good offices to prevail on players in the industry to ensure that they played by the rules and not do anything that will bring their image into disrepute,” the statement said.
The statement said in its quest to play its role in this vibrant sector, the NCR pledged its support for the Chamber’s entire endeavour to ensure that it succeeded to make the industry a beacon of hope and not despair to contribute its fullest quota to national development and growth.
