President John Evans Atta Mills took his turn today at the vetting of flagbearer aspirants of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He is the second candidate to go for the vetting after his only contender, former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings took her turn Tuesday.
Majority Leader, Mr Cletus Avoka who is member of the vetting committee told Joy News’ Araba Koomson after the exercise that the president’s vetting focused primarily on how he will foster unity in the party should he win the July 8 presidential primary.
Being the current leader of the party and nation, President Mills, the Majority Leader said, was quizzed on his leadership and how he intends to build reconciliation after the congress.
The president himself after his vetting briefly addressed supporters and journalists at the NDC party headquarters where the vetting was held.
He assured them that regardless of the outcome of the primary he will bring all factions together in order to prosecute a successful campaign in 2012, echoing commitments made by Mrs Rawlings after her vetting.
The former first lady was also reported to have committed to a united NDC after the primary, the outcome of elections notwithstanding.
