There was near chaos at Madina Zongo Junction Saturday, after as many as 30 heavily built land guards besieged the area to protect a parcel of land.
The men armed with assorted offensive weapons – machetes, axe, and pistol – cordoned off a land which is between the banks and the lorry station to guard the reconstruction of a wall allegedly pulled down over night by a another claimant.
Joy News’ Manasseh Azure Awuni who visited the scene reported sellers within that area fled for safety on seeing the men in the morning.
Business activities for the day grounded to a halt because of the presence of the armed men.
A source close to the reporter said the men were invited to the area by another land claimant who is dissatisfied with attempts to take over the land which he claimed belongs to him.
“It is unclear when the land guards will leave the place for state security to take over to prevent full blown clashes,” Mr Azure Awuni reported.
Meanwhile, information gathered by Joy News indicates that nobody has been arrested by the police in Madina.
