Gershon Gbediame, Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South has appealed to government to consider building an electricity sub-station at Nkwanta to adequately serve the northern part of the Volta Region.
He said the sub-station at Kpeve in the South Dayi District that serves Kpando, Hohoe, Jasikan, Kadjebi, Nkwanta, Krachi East and Krachi West districts was inadequate.
Mr Gbediame said a second sub-station would decentralize power, stabilize energy and reduce pressure on the Kpeve sub-station.
He appealed to government to connect Bonakye to the national electricity grid.
Mr Gbediame said Volta River Authority was extending power from the Northern Region through Damanko and this terminates at Bonakye.
Electricity Company of Ghana is also providing power up to Nkwnata, creating a missing link between Nyanbong, Bonakye and Nkwanta.
He commended World Vision International, Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), Women In Development, Hunger and Poverty Foundation, Ghana Education Project (GEP) for their efforts at healthcare delivery, water and sanitation provision, education infrastructure, income generation and skills training.
Mr Gbediame urged traditional authorities to make land available for development projects.
He called for marketing of the varied tourists sites of the area including the Kyabobo National Park and said its potential could be harnessed for socio-economic development and wealth creation.
