One of the leading mobile phone distributors in Ghana, Tecno Ghana has launched its 35th model phone unto the market with a promise to sign on famous Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan as Tecno Africa brand icon.
Market Manager of Tecno Ghana, Kwabena Boakye Asante disclosed this to Adom News at the launch of the new Tecno T8 handset where Asamoah Gyan and his brother Baffuor Gyan were special guests.
He said Tecno believed that with the clout Asamoah Gyan had across the continent and around the world, he would be a great brand ambassador for Tecno Africa.
Mr. Asante said Tecno currently commanded over 50 per cent market share in Ghana’s mobile phone distribution industry, but the newly launched Tecno T8 was expected to boost their market share further.
“The new phone is touch screen, dual-SIM, and has Wifi, a four gigabyte memory, an inbuilt modem and offers high speed internet but goes for a maximum of only GHS 200,” he said.
Mr. Asante said T8 was a convenient alternative for a laptop or computer because even though it was handy, its screen was big enough to enable the user to check and reply emails and also work online whiles on the move.
Mr. Asante said one other uniqueness of T8 was that the battery could take as long as three days before running out of power when the phone is on regular use.
He said Tecno had other very unique brands, some of which took three and four active SIM cards at the same time with batteries that could last up to two weeks. the phones also have inbuilt high definition cameras that could take sharp pictures from a long distance.
“We have phones that journalists can use for voice recording for 24 hours without losing battery power or running out of memory,” he said.
Mr. Asante said third party research showed TECNO had over 50 per cent market share in the mobile phone distribution market in Ghana, adding that “we expect our new T8 phone to take 30 per cent of our market share in no time.”
He said so far TECNO is providing about 20,000 direct and indirect jobs across country adding that there were plans to establish strong presence in all the regional capital and some districts and municipal capitals across the country beginning from next month.
“We have VIP shops in Accra and Kumasi and we are in the process of opening similar shops in Takoradi, Cape Coast and Tamale in the next month or so,” he said.
Mr. Asante noted that TECNO offered affordable phones, all of which came with 13 months warranty against any damage.
