Ninety-eight elderly people at Jachie in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District have benefited from a free eye-screening exercise.
It was organized by Compassion Africa Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO), and sponsored by Coca Cola Bottling Company and Jofel Catering Services.
Those with minor eye problems were given spectacles and medication while those with major problems were referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Addressing the aged after the exercise Reverend Francis Addo Nyadu, Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, said it was unfortunate that issues concerning the aged were not always handled well and appealed to the government to put in place policies that would address issues concerning the aged.
He said for instance that during the recent education on the re-denomination, no attempt was made to educate the aged and called on the Bank of Ghana to revisit the issue of educating the aged more on the new currency.
