The 33rd graduation ceremony of Cake Tekniks International took place on Sunday night at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) in Accra.
Cake Tekniks, was established some 15 years ago to train students in cake techniques, floral and balloon designs as well as sugar craft.
The event which saw 150 students graduate was chaired by Mrs Hagar Nana Bema Tackie, a fellow of the Ghana Institute of Surveyors.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs H.N.B. Tackie congratulated the faculty for honing the skills and talents of the students who had adorned the foyer of the AICA with the cake, sugar decorations and different types of floral designs.
She urged the students to be hardworking and concentrate on becoming their own bosses, but gave a note of caution that they needed to be strong and determined if they wanted to achieve it.
“Make your entry with confidence and determination to create a niche for yourself in the market,” she advised.
She said if they were going to succeed in their chosen fields “you should be honest with your clients and be prompt with your clients’ orders.”
She told the lady graduands to “maintain a balanced between [their] jobs and home”.
The ceremony saw some performances from ace gospel musician Esther Opisie and hip life artiste, Richie. The Cake Tecknic students also sent the audience at the AICC into rapturous applauds when they displayed their dexterity in dancing Agbadza and other modern moves.
The Chief Executive Officer of CTI Mrs Jane Addo told the graduands to take advantage of the growing business environment as a result of Ghana’s oil and gas economy and its related opportunities.
She said due to the delicate nature of the programmes offered at CTI, the school is obliged to review its curriculum to meet the demands of the changing times.
Mrs Addo said at CTI “the cakes are carved and crafted. They are made with passion,” adding the doors of CTI are open to students who wish to enroll.
A former student of the school Yvonne Laing gave a poetry recital whiles the graduation cake was being cut by Mrs. Addo and the members of the faculty.
The graduands received certificates in Computer and Baking Techniques, Catering, Floral and Balloon Decorations. Professional Diplomas were also presented to students who had completed the course successfully.
Ms Victoria Owusua Boateng was adjudged the best diploma student for performing par excellence in the optional theoretical examination.
Nine others who performed well also received Philip products from Somovision.
The guests of honour who graced the occasion were Nii Ayibonte, Gbese Mants;e and the Adontehene of the Ga state, Nii Amase Oseku, Amasaman Mantse; the acting Gambian ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Mr Akupela; Ing. Mike Addo (Director of Cake Teknics), Consultant Civil Engineer and husband of Mrs Jane Addo, Mrs Jemimah Hagan co-founder of CTI; Micke Clottey and Pastor Yawson.
