An environmental awareness advocacy group has suggested that open latrines springing up in newly demarcated residential areas in Ho be sealed before they create health problems for the people.
Concerned Good Health Awareness group (CGHAG) based in Accra in a statement after a visit to Hodefe, a suburb between Zongo and 66 Artillery Regiment Barracks, said the situation was a threat to the health of the people.
The statement signed by Dr Yaw Adu Asamoah, Executive Secretary of the group, said in spite of layout plans for the area that allows only self-contained type of houses, the place was inundated with pit latrines, many of which are not roofed.
The statement said some of the toilets were close to food vending spots, bakeries a micro-scale herbal medicinal factory and a stream.
It also expressed concern about waste, including excreta, disposal in uncompleted buildings in the area.Source: GNA
