The Brong Ahafo Regional branch of Ghana Cooperative Marketing Association (GCMA) has petitioned Isaac Osei, Chief Executive of Ghana Cocoa Board to ensure that all assets transferred to the board by the erstwhile PNDC are released to the association.
Nana Twum Barimah, Regional Manager of GCMA, told a press conference attended by representatives from all the 19 districts in the region that members of the association "feel cheated and uncertain".
The GCMA's assets include cocoa sheds, depots with quarters attached and bungalows scattered throughout the country.
Nana Barimah said the association's assets in Brong Ahafo were located in Sunyani and Techiman municipalities, Asunafo North, Asunafo South, Dormaa and Tano districts.
"Several appeals made by the association to the COCOBOD for a return of the assets have been unsuccessful", he said.
He said in November last year cabinet directed the Attorney General to finalize the matter with COCOBOD to enable GCMA to begin full operations but this directive had not been carried out.
Nana Barimah said the delay had brought hardship to members of the association and their families, expressing regret that for about 15 years the assets had not been renovated.
He appealed to the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General to intervene for COCOBOD to release the assets to the association.
