The Police Administration has declared an all out war against land guards in the country.
The phenomenon which is widespread especially in sprawling suburbs involves weapon-carrying guards who claim to protect parcels of land.
These groups attack rival claimants to the land and have in times past, engaged security agents in shoot-outs resulting in some deaths on both sides.
The police administration says the phenomenon has created an atmosphere of insecurity in the country.
The Director General of Police Operations, Jonathan Yakubu told a news conference that the police is intent on eliminating land guards and said all those involved in land disputes or feel threatened by the activities of land guards should report it to the Property Protection Unit at the Police Headquarters.
He also warned against the use of unlicensed motorbikes and vehicles, and said the situation was so nauseating that, sometimes such unregistered vehicles were employed in wedding and other processions.
Jonathan Yakubu warned that couples using such vehicles would be towed with the cars to carrages to face prosecution.
