Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah has assured Ghana Football Association that GNPC's sponsorship of the Black Stars will continue.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has been championing the cancellation of the deal since the new government took office.
Mr. Mensah-Bonsu argues there is no need to invest in the senior national team while the country gets nothing in return.
GNPC has been sponsoring the Black Stars for the last five years on a reported US$ 3 million-a-year deal but the Black Stars have been failed to repay the benevolence as their attempt to win Africa cup of Nations title has been unsuccessful.
But according to the Minister the state-owned oil exploration firm will not terminate its contract with the Ghana FA.
''I speak as the Minister for Youth and Sports. The GNPC deal will continue, the support for the national team will continue,'' Asiamah said on Monday
''We are going to ensure that we place much emphasis on transparency and accountability this time round. We will ensure that there is proper oversight by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
''So now the amount will be channeled through the Ministry of Youth and Sports. It is no longer going to go through the GFA.''
