Several personalities including His Royal Majesty, Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, Chairman of UT Group of Companies, Deputy Minister for Education, Mahama Ayariga and Nana Essilfie-Conduah have joined forces to make an urgent call to Ghanaians for the need to change their lackadaisical attitudes towards everything in order to become more productive.
The call was made at the Coconut Groove Regency Hotel Tuesday night during the launch of Michael Ohene-Effah's latest book, Beyond The Extra Mile.
The book is the third of knowledge-filled books written by this innovative and growth-oriented writer. His previous works; Why Keep Your Axe Blunt? and Why Not The Best? are not only best sellers, they are priceless materials that have changed readers from losers to winners.
The author of the book disclosed in his address that the “book was birthed out of frustration. Frustration that the tailor who says I should pick up my shirt in 3 days, does still not have it ready after a week. Frustration that it takes 30 minutes for the waiter at a restaurant to take my order...”
He revealed that Beyond The Extra Mile is aimed at fixing the Ghanaian man and the global man so as to launch a performance and productivity revolution.
And Nana Essifie Conduah couldn't agree more, “any reader who reads this book, Beyond The Extra Mile, gains from the simplicity of knowledge that there are too many options which crush self-doubting and enable looking up without looking back.”
The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, who was the special guest of honour on his part expressed that he is saddened that, “Africa,” which “is home to 50 percent of the world's mineral resources... remain in the deadly grip of poverty. The mention of Africa invokes some negative images.”
The Okyenhene said he is again saddened that, “the education system that we inherited, [the education system] that Dr Kwame Nkrumah built that gave you and me the quality education that we needed has now become the preserve of the rich and the privileged.”
He called for a paradigm shift that will see a change in the old ways urging that, “we cannot continue on this level unless we are willing to change our attitude, change our values, change the system will inherited from the British.”
He was however happy that after all these painful sights and fears, there is a young man, Michael who is telling us that all is not lost and if we are determined and committed and we have the energy to go the extra mile, we will one day get to our destination of excellence.
