The National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced on Friday that the timetable for the conduct of primaries remained unchanged and that no constituency could hold its primaries until it had written permission from the headquarters signed by the General Secretary.
In a statement signed by Mr. Baba Jamal, Deputy General Secretary, the NDC said it had come to the notice of the national headquarters that some people were going round the country, especially in the Northern Region, claiming to have been sent by the national headquarters to prepare grounds and supervise primaries for the election of parliamentary candidates.
"The headquarters wish to bring to the notice of the general public, especially NDC regional and constituency branch executives, that no such persons have been mandated to perform any duty on behalf of headquarters.
"The headquarters are therefore cautioning that any person who makes such a claim should be reported to headquarters immediately."
The National Executive Committee of the party said it was reminding all concerned that the on-going exercise was in respect of orphan constituencies only and that a separate timetable would be issued for constituencies with sitting MPs in due course.
It said prospective candidates for constituencies with sitting NDC MPs were warned to desist from any form of campaigning whether overtly of covertly until further directives were received from national headquarters.
