A grand durbar of paramount chiefs in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions was held at Bolgatanga on Saturday to honour eight prominent citizens in recognition of the various roles they have played towards the development of the north.
Those honoured included Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, President of the ECOWAS Commission and late President Hilla Limann, who was honoured posthumously.
The rest were Peter Cardinal Porkuu Dery, Mr C.K. Tedam, Council of State Member, Colonel (Retired) George Minyilla, former Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Mr Robert Ajene, a retired educationist, and soccer legend Abedi Ayew Pele.
There was a huge crowd at the Ramsey Sports Stadium, formerly St. John's Park, the venue for the gathering.
It was yet another occasion to showcase the area's rich culture with pomp and thrilling bouts of traditional drumming and dancing.
