A Youth Entrepreneurship Fund has been set up for the youth of Ketu South District in the Volta Region to assist in their self-employment.The revolving fund, established with a seed capital of $25,000, is aimed also at making the youth in the area become self-reliant rather than being overly attracted to non-existent white-colour jobs in search of which they waste otherwise productive hours. This was disclosed at a “destiny changing seminar” for tertiary students, young graduates and youth leaders for the people of Ketu South, organised by the Friends of Fifi Kwetey, deputy Finance Minister.About 800 youth and a handful of adults including the clergy who are determined to cause a change in the area attended the seminar held at the Assemblies of God Auditorium at Aflao. It was under the theme: Transforming the Youth of Ketu and Raising Future Giants for Ghana. The meeting was full of thought-provoking lessons from resource persons Mr Emmanuel Dei Tumi of the Foundation for Future Leaders; Mr Charles Sam of Golden Future Promotion; and Mr Emmanuel Adu Sarkodie, CEO of CDH Financial Holdings Ltd, who inspired the youth to take up the lead role in developing the country. Speaker after speaker through their motivational words challenged the youth to unleash their talents and capabilities locked up in their minds for their own benefit and that of the communities they find themselves in.Mr Frankly Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, who engineered the fund, said he was challenged by the snail-paced development of the area over decades and the need for a new wind of change to sweep through Ketu South and facilitate its growth. As a son of Denu, he said he had always thought of what he could also do to help the community, adding that the fund, which signifies the dawn of a new day in Ketu South, was just one of the many dreams he had for the area.He charged the youth to become agents of change in whatever situation or position they find themselves, without necessarily waiting to take up leadership mantles before offering what they can give to the community.Mr Kwetey was hopeful that the Youth Entrepreneurship Fund, to be managed by a board of trustees would help produce world-class entrepreneurs from Ketu South.
