Mr Osei Assibey-Antwi, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister has charged parents to inculcate good moral values in their children to ensure their proper upbringing.
He held that such training would greatly curb indiscipline and deviant behaviour that had become rampant among the youth in recent times to the detriment of national development.
Mr Assibey-Antwi, who was speaking at a forum on parenting in Kumasi, observed that the future of every nation lies on the youth and called on stakeholders to invest in their training and education to enable them to be law-abiding whilst standing up to the challenges in society.
The forum was organized by the Bible Study and Prayer Group of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) and hosted by the Bantama branch of the church.
The Deputy Minister cautioned spouses to exercise restraint in the face of misunderstanding and not resort to divorce since marriage break-ups had the high tendency of having adverse effects on children.
Opanin Kwadwo Kyere, a renowned marriage counsellor, expressed indignation at men who shirk their parental responsibilities and rather indulge in excessive materialism and alcoholism.
He said it was high time they refrained from this attitude and be devoted to "training their children in the way they should go so that they do not depart from the good moral values imbued in them".
