Pascal Osei-Twumasi, Ashanti Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare has expressed his gratitude and appreciation to individuals, churches and organizations for their support towards the upkeep of the department’s various homes.
He said the assistance to the Children’s Home, Edwinase Rehabilitation Centre, Asawasi Remand Home, all in Kumasi and the Bekwai Infirmary, has greatly supported the government in caring for the needy children.
"It has helped in giving vocational training skills to such people to enable them to contribute meaningfully towards the socio-economic development of the country".
Mr Osei-Twumasi mentioned for instance the donation of an Urvan bus to the Kumasi Children’s Home recently by the Ashanti New Town Club based in Amsterdam, Holland as a laudable idea.
He said the Club has also promised to construct a Day-Care Centre at the Home to help train the children.
The Regional Director appealed to the disabled to take advantage of the facilities in their rehabilitation centers and acquire vocational skills to enable them to be self-employed and contribute positively to the development of the country.
Mr Osei-Twumasi stressed the need for individuals, churches and organizations to continue supporting the maintenance and caring of children and other needy people in society.
