The Kassena Nankana District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has put in place special initiatives to boost the scheme.So far 29 per cent of the district population have registered with the scheme with ¢935,914,000 as premium mobilized from the informal sector.Also the district has paid ¢2,421,255,151 as bills accrued from insured clients.This was contained in the District’s Mutual Health Insurance Scheme status report.According to the report, since May this year, the Scheme has had an arrangement with a private health service provider, St. Jude Clinic to provide services to insured clients in the district.This intervention became necessary as a result of industrial action embarked on by health service providers.The clinic has since treated over 1547 clients and an amount of ¢179 million has been paid in that respect.The scheme has also undertaken a mass registration exercise to register people above 69 years, indigents and SSNIT pensioners. At the end of the exercise, 2042 people were registered and have been issued with identification cards.Additionally, about 24 physically challenged persons who cannot pay the premium have been registered and photographed.The report also states that since the commencement of the scheme in November 2005, close to a hundred (100) persons have undergone cataract operation. The scheme has been paying ¢750,000 per eye operated.Furthermore, as part of the initiatives to boost scheme, the DMHIS has entered into an agreement with Sandema Hospital to handle clients especially those from Chiana and its environs without asking for introductory from the scheme office.Source: ghanadistricts
