The Brong Ahafo Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress has dissociated itself from a statement attributed to its acting Regional Chairman calling on the Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, not to relinquish his position following his nomination as Minister of state designate for the Interior.
A statement sig¬ned by the NDC Regional Secretary, July 27 issue of the Ghanaian Times as having said that Nana Obiri Boahen should not bow to pressure to resign his position, "has never at any material time been the acting chairman of the Party in the Region."
"The regional secretariat of NDC wishes to state categorically that the party has a substantive Regional Chairman in the person of Mr Owusu Agyeman, who is alive and dis¬charging his duties."
It added that "the opinion expressed by Mr Cubagee were entirely his and did not in any way reflect the position of the NDC either at the regional level or the Sunyani East constituency of the partyā.
The statement said the NDC was not surprised by the utterances of Mr Cubagee because he is a brother in-law to Nana Obiri Boahen, hence the favourable comments about him.
In the previous publication of this paper, Nana Obiri Boahen's nomination as a Minister of State was long overdue considering the role he played over the years as the Brong-Ahafo chaiman of the NPP.
Mr Cubagee also urged Nana Obiri Boahen not to resign his position as party chairman due to pressure.
Mr Cubagee cited instances where due to pressure from certain quarters he resigned certain positions.
