Special aide to ex-President Rawlings, Victor Smith says his boss has no need for a free advice from Dr. Arthur Kennedy, an NPP presidential aspirant, on how Rawlings could end allegations of corruption against him and his wife.He told Joy News that Rawlings was not even giving any consideration whatsoever to the advice, published in the newspapers.Dr. Arthur Kennedy wrote the open letter to the former President in what he calls a genuine attempt to help the Rawlingses clear their image. An official of Norwegian cement producers, SCANCEM, owners of Ghanaian-based GHACEM, alleges that he paid over four million dollars in bribes to Ghanaian government officials, 1.7 million dollars of which allegedly went to the Rawlingses. In response the former first couple has written to the court in which the allegation was made demanding explanations. They have also called on other investigative bodies to probe the allegations to establish the truth. But Dr. Kennedy has an alternative proposal; he wants the Rawlingses to declare their assets to end all speculations. However, in a sharp rebuttal, the former President’s Special Aide is not amused by the advice. He questioned why the same advise was not given to President Kufuor against whom kickback allegations had been leveled.According to Victor Smith, Arthur Kennedy’s efforts were only aimed at driving public sympathy to aid his political ambition to win the NPP’s presidential candidature, and he should rather concentrate on that.“My point is, he is trying to make a whole meal out of the suggestion he has made, as if he it’s the best advice that one can ever give, and I said to him, give the same advice to President Kufuor. Tell him to tell CHRAJ, he is the president of the Republic: take me on. Rawlings is always saying take me on, President Kufuor should tell CHRAJ, take me on and investigate hotel waa waa, investigate the current big amount that is being spent on his Presidential Palace and the Ghana at 50. take me on.”
