Seven small-scale miners, (galamsey) operators escaped death narrowly when the pit in which they were working at Dadieso near Wassa-Akropong in the Western Region caved-in.
Colleagues rescued the illegal miners including five women and were taken to the Wassa-Akropong Government Hospital where six were treated and discharged.
Dr. Frederick Yaw Sarpong, Medical Officer in charge of the hospital, in a telephone interview said that only one of the miners had a compound fracture on one leg.
Nine "galamsey" operators were trapped to death in a similar accident at the same area at Dadieso on April 16 this year.
