The Police in Kumasi are hold three persons for their alleged roles in a chieftaincy dispute that degenerated into a violent clash at the courtyard of Manhyia in Kumasi.
The dispute is said to be over attempts by a section of the people of Atwima Agogo to destool their chief.
They accuse the chief, Nana Okyere Poku, of being behind a numberof inexplained deaths in the town.
Another section of the people are said to oppose the destoolment moves.
Nana Okyere Poku had visited Manhyia to pay homage to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and to attend a traditional council meeting when his accusers attempted to prevent him from doing so, leading to the violent clash as his supporters rallied to his defence. Police say the clash left three people with varying degrees of injuries.
According to Inspector Mohammed Tanko of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, a reinforced security managed to quell the disturbance and assured that adequate measures had been put in place to keep the peace and to prevent future occurrences.
