36 year old Abdallah Ibn-Ahmed, the Ghanaian Moslem pilot who has become an innocent victim of President Bush’s war on terror may soon get the support of Parliament.A letter from the office of the Speaker, Ebenezer Sekyi Hughes has assured Ibn-Ahmed that his petition to Parliament is receiving attention.The letter did not give any details about what Parliament is doing or will do to ensure that Ibn Ahmed’s name is removed from a list of terrorists too enable him live a normal life.Ibn-Ahmed was arrested in a swoop by US Security agents soon after the September 11 attack in New York allegedly carried out by Bin-Laden loyalists.He was shocked from his waist with his hands down to his ankles and like a common terrorist locked up in a cell.Whiles in detention, Ibn Ahmed fell seriously ill but his captors reused to give him medical attention and his condition continued to worsen.In all of Ibn Ahmed refused to renounce his faith and repeatedly told his captors that “I strongly profess and practice the Islamic faith because I believe that is where my salvation lies and except death, no amount of intimidation and harassment will or can change that.”Ibn Ahmed could very easily have ended up in the Guantanamo detention camp if the Government of Ghana had not intervened.He was eventually returned to Ghana without all the belongings he had acquired from the US.In his petition to Parliament, Ibn-Ahmed claimed that his problems did not end with his return to Ghana.His home is still on the list of international terrorist and is unable to travel to the west.He has also not been able to access funds sent to him from relatives and friends from abroad.Ibn-Ahmed is unemployed and his conditions of life are not getting any better.An intervention by the government of Ghana and other state institution may contribute greatly to alleviating the plight of a young and brilliant pilot.Source: The Insight
