Overview
When you've suffered a breakup that you weren't ready for, it's easy to fantasize about your man realizing the error of his ways and coming back to you. Letting him know that you're still interested and available is one of the first steps to winning him back, but you'll also need to show him that you're the woman that he wants. A casual but comfortable encounter between the two of you can set off the fireworks that made you a couple in the first place.
Step 1
Ensure that your man is still single by checking out his social-networking profile or asking common acquaintances. You don't want to be embarrassed by asking out a man who is no longer single. If he's attached to a new woman, you should respect that and avoid communicating with him, notes "Glamour" magazine.
Step 2
Call him to talk casually for a few minutes. Let him know that you were just calling to see how he is doing. Mention something from your past together that you wanted to find out about, like how his sister's pregnancy is coming along or if he ever got that job promotion. Keep the conversation short and end on a high note, when you're laughing and having a good time, but haven't experienced any awkward pauses.
Step 3
Arrange for a casual meeting for coffee or lunch a few days after you make the initial contact, suggests "Cosmopolitan" magazine. Lunch or coffee is less formal than a dinner date, so you avoid raising any red flags concerning a reconciliation.
Step 4
Spend time reminiscing about your relationship at lunch. Talk about how you met or something that happened to you as a couple and see how he reacts. If he joins in the conversation and accepts your memories warmly, he'll likely be open to getting back together. If he seems distant and doesn't want to talk, he may have already moved on and isn't interested in giving the relationship another chance.
Step 5
Call him a few days after your lunch and confess that you miss him. Pause to see if he agrees. If he confesses that he misses you, too, ask if he'd like to consider getting back together for a trial period to see how things go. If he seems resistant, offer him time to think about your offer and ask him to call you back with an answer. If he flat-out rejects the idea, thank him for lunch and tell him you'd like to keep in touch.
