The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has been awarded the 2017 World Champion in ICT applications.
GIFEC was adjudged the winner in the E-environment category following its 112 public emergency response project it exhibited at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The four-day event lasted from June 12 – 16.
The citation of the award recognized the extra-ordinary contribution of the organization towards strengthening the implementation of the WSIS outcomes in Ghana.
The award was presented by Secretary-General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Houlin Zhao and was received by the Acting Administrator of GIFEC, Abraham Kofi Asante.
The annual event is the largest gathering of the IT community and it provides a platform for global multi-stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines for advancing UN sustainable development goals and targets.
The event also provides the opportunity for countries to share ideas and best practices while identifying emerging trends and fostering partnerships. It also helps countries to take into account evolving information and knowledge societies.
