The Kumawu Circuit Court has fined a 30-year-old farmer at Kumawu, GH¢300 (three million cedis) for unlawfully entering a reserved forest to fell trees. Samuel Yaw Owusu, the farmer, pleaded guilty and would serve 24 months imprisonment in default of the fine. Police Chief Inspector Anthony Godfred Sakyi told the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that on July 15 this year, Owusu entered the Bonfuom forest reserve at Kumawu and felled 20 teak trees worth GH¢700 (seven million cedis). He said the Forest Services Division (FSD) officials who detected the theft reported to the Kumawu police who through their investigations arrested the accused.
