The ruling New Patriotic Party will from Tuesday begin parliamentary primaries to elect candidates who the party says have what it takes to wrestle power from opposition members of parliament in the 2008 elections.
The primaries will start in the Wa Central and Nadowli West constituencies in the Upper West region where the party lost parliamentary seats to the NDC in the last elections.
National executives of the party have moved camp to the region in preparation for Tuesday’s primaries.
The NPP has nine orphan constituencies in the Uppers West Region but party officials say they will hold elections in only two since the other seven have been decided on consensus.
Lord Commey, the National Organizer of the NPP, says the Vetting Committee of the party has also suspended primaries in some orphan constituencies including Odododiodio in Accra for strategic reasons.
The next batch of the primaries will be in the Upper East Region on the 17 August.
