Players and officials of Keta Sunset Sports escaped unhurt as their ‘Urvan’ bus on which they were traveling was involved in a head-on clash with an Opel Astra at Dabala in the Volta Region.
Confirming the incident, the team manager of Sunset, Ruben Adjahoe said the Opel Astra which was traveling in the opposite direction veered off its lane and run into the Keta Sunset Sports team bus.
In an attempt to avoid a fatal incident, the Sunset bus driver drove off the lane and run into another vehicle in the process.
Mr Adjahoe assured of the safety of all the players and officials, saying “by God’s grace there was no casualty recorded after the event. The players obviously were traumatized by the incident but fortunately none of them was hurt”.
Sunset who lead the CAL Bank Beach Soccer league with 16 points, were returning to Keta after they played their Match Day 6 fixture, which they won 4-0 against Osu Dolphins.
Mr Adjahoe was convinced this will not affect their next game and that they are looking forward to extend their unbeaten run.
“We have been speaking to the players to get them in shape ahead of next week’s match so that this accident doesn’t affect our chances of picking up the three maximum points”.
