The Paramount Chief of Avatime Traditional Area, Osie Adzatekpor VII says his area has all the necessary training facilities needed by the Black Stars to win the 2012 Nations Cup.He is therefore challenging the team's technical handlers to bring them to Avatime where all the facilities would be made available to them.Osie Azdatekpor VII lamented over the practice where managers of national teams, including the Black Stars, spend so much on the teams to travel to France and other European countries to acclimatize ahead of major tournaments, when all the reasons for going there could be met in Ghana, precisely, Avatime. The Osie was speaking to Asempa News on Friday at his Palace at Vane in the Ho Municipality of Volta region, after a brief ceremony, where the Ghana National Cycling Association launched the National Cyclists Competition. The launch of the competition is to expose the area to that sporting discipline due to its unique weather and mountainous heights. It formed part of activities preceding the durbar of chiefs and people of the Avatime area to climax the celebration of their annual rice festival dubbed “Amufest 2011” in Adzofe on Saturday. The entire Avatime area has temperate weather condition which makes it suitable for all manner of sporting activities including soccer, cycling, mounting hiking, hockey as well as tennis.Osie Adzatekpor VII revealed, the move to expose Avatime to cycling events is one of the many efforts being made to diversify sporting activities in the country rather than promoting football alone.Osie Adzatekpor called on the National Sports Authority to support the initiative to promote cycling in the area as Avatime is on its way to becoming the sports hub of the Volta Region due to its mountainous nature. The Paramount Chief appealed to the National Cycling Association to sustain the event. He disclosed that there are plans by the leadership of the area to make Avatime the replica of Kenya and even make it better, where local sportsmen and women can have the opportunity to train adequately ahead of major sporting events.
