The Ghana Journalist Association Awards Committee on Wednesday announced winners for the 12th edition of the GJA awards scheduled for August 18, this year. The winners for the print categories are: Mr. William Asiedu, Graphic Showbiz, Mr Edmond Kofi Yeboah, Mr Emmanuel Kojo Kwarteng, Kofi Akordor, all from the Daily Graphic, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Crusading Guide and John Vigah, Ghanaian Times. Winners for radio and television categories are Peggy Ama Donkor, Clare Banoeng Yakubo, Ghana Television, Nana Aba Anamoah, TV3 and Matilda Asante, Joy FM. Mr Kweku Rockson, Chairman of the Awards Committee announcing the winners said the specific categories would be announced on the awards day. He said the committee developed an objective approach to assess all entries by creating an evaluation form for use by each assessor. The specific criteria for awarding points on a scale of one to 10 were: accuracy, balance, impact, background, ethical standards and language presentation (print). Mr. Rockson who is also the Acting Director at the Ghana Institute of Journalism noted that the same criteria was used for radio and television in addition to clarity of voice, picture and sound quality and technical issues which include recording speed and tracking. He said the competition attracted 205 entries. MTN, major sponsors for the awards ceremony used the platform to announce a GH¢20,000.00 (¢200 million) sponsorship package for the event. Ms Mawuena Dumor, Communications Manager at MTN who announced the package said the MTN was eager to partner the media in Ghana to enhance the knowledge of the Ghanaian public with regards to telecommunications in general and ICT in particular. "MTN has sought to build a relationship with the media in Ghana because the media is a critical partner in national development.' Ms. Dumor congratulated the GJA for the event and expressed delight to be associated with it. Mr. Ransford Tetteh, President of the Ghana Journalists Association, expressing gratitude for the gesture said: "We were looking forward to this day when corporate bodies will come to assist the GJA."
