Majeed Waris was left disappointed by his failed move to the Premier League, according to Lorient president Loic Fery.
The 25-year-old Black Stars attacker was strongly linked with moves to Burnley and West Ham United.
Lorient was prepared to sell if the right offer was put on the table, but nothing was finalised by the time the window snapped shut last week.
“The moment where it all got stuck, was around mid-August. We were close, at that point, with some clubs, but there were complications,” said Fery.
“Then, in the last few days of the window, it was more the work permit issues that were worrying English clubs.”
Fery added that it is his belief that Waris will bounce back and achieve his goals - especially if he performs strongly for Lorient.
“His first goal is to return to the national team. His second is to play in England,” added Fery.
“I don’t doubt that he will one day play there. I think that playing well for Lorient will help him achieve his goals.”
Waris scored 13 goals in the French Ligue 1 last season, but it was not enough to save Lorient from relegation.
He would be expected to replicate his scoring exploits this term in the second tier as Lorient seeks a quick return to the top flight.
