The General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party’s (CPP), Prof. Nii Noi Dowuona, has dismissed as mischievous and a pack of untruths, media reports that the party’s yet to be scheduled Congress was in danger as a result of lack of funds.
A Ghana News Agency report, quoting unnamed ‘eminent members of the Central Committee’ of the party said the third National Delegates' Congress slated tentatively for September ending was in danger as the party could not raise funds to organize it.
“The party barons and godfathers have failed to roll in the needed funds for congress…most of them are mainly interested in controlling the party machine rather than ensuring that we organize to elect the most popular candidates for Elections 2008,” the GNA quotes them as saying.
But Prof. Dowuona rubbished the claims and said even the setting up of a vetting committee as mandated by the party’s constitution to vet presidential aspirants has not been done and anyone throwing out such claims must be an ignorant person or someone out to cause mischief.
Prof. Dowuona said the publication ought to be treated with the contempt it deserved because it lacked foundation.
