The African Association of Agricultural Economists has said it will review the contribution of the agricultural sector to the attainment of the millennium development goals.
The group is worried about the apparent neglect of the sector that is the driving force behind the continent's economic growth.
The association is concerned about the fact that the various financial and technical supports being provided by governments as well as donor agencies have still not lifted the agricultural sector to the level where it can help reduce poverty and provide sustainable income.
The agricultural association believes the millennium development goals will not be achieved by the 2015 deadline.
The Association will hold a three-day conference for than 250 agricultural economists in Accra from Monday August 20. One of the main objectives of the conference is to assess the prospects of the sector.
Speaking to Joy News on Sunday, Felix Asante, the Vice President of the African Association of Agricultural Economists, Ghana, said the 2nd International Conference is expected to present a communiqué to policy makers and leaders of Africa on how to grow the agric sector.
