Dear Mr. President,
I wish I had your cell phone number or email to have this chat with you privately. I know you have a busy schedule, but I promise this message is going to be short and simple. First of all, “Congratulations!” on your great speech at the just ended 72nd UN Assembly.
Yes, many parts of your speech were great but one particular sentence was really confusing and misleading to nuclear experts and the international community.
In your speech, you said “…Our nuclear reactor has, subsequently, been converted to low-enriched fuel for power generation...”. This basically means Ghana has a nuclear reactor for power generation which is not the case.
The last time I checked, the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission housed only a reactor for research and training purposes.
Mr. President, a research reactor is not capable of power generation but rather meant for neutron production. So, the point is, Ghana’s research reactor cannot generate electricity, it’s only for research.
I might be wrong, but again, I stand for a correction in your response. If I am misinterpreting your speech, then you will have to explain and let the international community know if Ghana has a “secret” nuclear reactor capable of generating power.
I look forward to having more conversation with you on this topic and I also strongly encourage the nuclear scientist in Ghana to involve the government and the public in nuclear-related topics.
All of this makes nuclear energy more complex if the topics are not discussed.
Mr. President, thank you for your time and have a nice day.
Sincerely,
Innocent Tsorxe
